About

Warwick District Council and Stratford-on-Avon District Council are proposing to include the area of open fields (see SG04 below) as a site for 750 new houses as part of the new South Warwickshire Local Plan. Kenilworth sits within Warwick District. The area lies behind Rouncil Lane & Sovereign Close on one side, and Rounds Hill and Rouncil Lane on the other, and is an important area of Green Belt at the edge of our town.

We believe these fields should be protected from development:

  • For our heritage: to protect important views and the wider setting of Kenilworth Castle, as the area is part of the historic Forest of Arden landscape and former deer park; new houses would be visible from the Castle & gardens.
  • For wildlife: to protect ancient woodland and hedgerows, full of important rare birds and species.
  • To avoid an unsustainable development: there is no adequate road and transport infrastructure here, insufficient GP or school capacity, and longstanding problems with sewage; putting 750 new houses here would put unmanageable pressure on already strained local infrastructure.
  • To maintain the Green Belt as an important buffer between Kenilworth and other towns and villages.
  • To protect the area for future generations: it is greatly valued by our whole community. Let's keep these precious fields open for our future.

The Campaign

We are a local group of residents working to protect these fields through the local plan process. Over time we will add more background here on how the plan works, key dates, and what you can do to help.

For now, the most important thing you can do is sign the petition and encourage others in Kenilworth to do the same.

Local children made this banner to fly the flag for the campaign at the recent Two Castles 10k run. These are the fields, and the future, we are working to protect.
